[Notes: For a Pokémon like Arcanine, I wanted to do a unique type combination. So, when Lediblock2 mjjjjjujjkjjjjjkly me for a sabertooth based variant, I immediately thought of a Fire/Ice variant that could be a legend in its own right. Though, nothing much is changed in the design, it is because I feel the Growlithe family is awesome as it is. Let's just say I didn't go out of my way to give it a complete remake in terms of design.]

Growlithe are one of the very few Pokémon that do not have a variant which originated in Alneo. The Alnean Growlithe are, in fact, the descendants of the Kantonese Firestone Growlithe that were brought over to Alneo when the famous Emperor Alexander Kent colonized the region. For their warm fur and excellent guarding skills, these Growlithe were readily tamed by the trainers living in snow covered valleys of North Alneo and over time, developed into the magnificent Sabertooth variant that we all know.

The Saberteeth are indeed a paradox in every possible way. They are the only Pokémon in the world to have a Fire/Ice type so far and this paradoxical combination is clearly visible in the behavioral characteristics of the Pokémon.

The Alnean Growlithe usually have a pretty unpredictable nature, which makes them rather difficult to train. However, this very trait gives them an upperhand in battle since the usual calm and reserved behaviour plays a good role in fooling the opponent who does the mistake of underestimating these Pokémon. One may never know when the ice would melt and the ferocious beast beneath would unleash the fury.

The Sabertooth Arcanine are famous for their unique quality to manipulate temperatures. This ability makes these Arcanine an efficient companion on any form of terrain, whether it be polar glaciers or equatorial deserts. One folklore revolving around this Pokémon claims that a Sabertooth Arcanine once froze the entire Distortion Realm to save its trainer from Giratina's wrath. Locals believe that this was the point in time when these Arcanine recieved their signature move: Cold Flames, that are claimed to freeze the opponents body while burning their soul. It is said that Arcanine use this move on sinners to burn away their sins and purify their souls. The shrine of "The One Who Froze Hell" is a famous pilgrimage site, full of religious people who believe that the Ancient Arcanine would cleanse their souls of the sins they have committed in life.

Competitively, this family is a tank in every form. There are very few Pokémon even in Alneo that are able to match the stat total of an average adult Sabertooth Arcanine, and even if they do, they fail to cope up with the completely random battle tactics. This is why, only a few, extremely skilled trainers have actually managed to defeat these unpredictable storms in battles.
