When the Farfetch'd subspecies was first discovered in Alneo, scientists were sure that it was actually an evolution rather than a variant. The fact that the Alnean Farfetch'd are not only greater in size and bulk, but also in stats and abilities, had the subspecies almost confirmed as an evolved form of Farfetch'd in the National Pokédex. It wasn't until more genetic research and breeding was done that it was confirmed as a subspecies.

Apart from a few similarities in appearance, the Combatant Farfetch'd are nothing like their Kantonese counterparts. This subspecies is blessed with immense reflexes and strong limbs to help them learn a variety of combat techniques. These Farfetch'd are known to forge a variety of lethal weapons out of leeks, vines and branches. The Combatant Farfetch'd are born brawlers, known to pick up a fight with foes of any shape and size. These Farfetch'd are so determinant battlers, that they refuse to quit battles even when fatally injured, a trait that has caused these Pokémon to be one of the endangered species even in a region like Alneo.
